The bridge structure species were the target this week, and the bridge fish were biting. The main target was spadefish. They were on but not on fire, biting sporadically. Rodger Burnley (Ric’s brother) and I fished one day we picked at a few spades and found the triggerfish on the island. Rodger had to head in and I headed for the pilings for the next slack tide. My first drop for the spades, just 6 feet found a sheepshead.
The next time out I fished with Rob Choi. We were hooking some spades;
and I found some bites off of the pilings. I hooked one and it got off then I hooked a sheepie. The interesting thing was where it was. It was about 8 feet off of the pile. We have seen sheepies swimming with schools of spadefish when the water was real clear. This one wasn’t on the pile but out with the school of spades.
When the current got going, I dropped fiddlers to the bottom of the pile and began to get trigger bites when I landed one, Rob dropped down to get one and hooked into something that wasn’t a trigger, it was a 26” sheepie.
